MP Archuna Ramanathan Released on Bail After Arrest


MP Dr. Archuna Ramanathan, who was arrested by a special police team on the afternoon of January 29, has been released on bail. According to the Police Media Division, the Anuradhapura Magistrate's Court granted his release on two surety bonds of Rs. 200,000 each. The case is set to be revisited on February 3.

The arrest occurred on the night of January 20 in the Anuradhapura Thalawa area, where Ramanathan, an independent MP, was accused of obstructing police officers performing traffic duties by allegedly using criminal force. Following the incident, the Anuradhapura Police launched an investigation and presented the details to the Anuradhapura Magistrate's Court.

The court's decision to release Ramanathan on bail allows him temporary freedom as the legal proceedings continue. Further developments in the case are expected when it is next heard in court.
