Attorney-at-Law Shiral Lakthilaka Summoned to CID for Statement on Missing Presidential Media Division Items

Attorney-at-Law Shiral Lakthilaka, who served as a Presidential Advisor from 2015 to 2020, was summoned to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today to provide a statement regarding the alleged misplacement of items purchased for the Presidential Media Division.

Speaking to the media after his appearance at the CID, Mr. Lakthilaka clarified that state officials, not presidential advisors, are responsible for handling such assets. "I was never assigned those responsibilities during my tenure as a Presidential Advisor," he stated.

However, he expressed his willingness to cooperate with the investigation, emphasizing his belief in the rule of law. "As a responsible citizen, I consider it my duty to participate in any inquiry when summoned for such matters," he added.

Mr. Lakthilaka also raised concerns about the government's priorities. He criticized the authorities for focusing on an incident from three years ago while turning a blind eye to recent large-scale frauds. He cited the silence surrounding alleged visa fraud as a glaring example and questioned why resources are being spent on minor investigations while more serious financial irregularities go unaddressed.
