Jaffna MP Ramanathan Archuna Arrested for Obstructing Police Duties

Jaffna District Member of Parliament Dr. Ramanathan Archuna was arrested today in Jaffna for allegedly obstructing police duties, according to Police Media Spokesman SSP Buddhika Manatunge. 

The arrest follows an incident in the Rambewa area of Anuradhapura, where MP Archuna reportedly interfered with police personnel performing their duties. The Anuradhapura Magistrate's Court had previously instructed the police to conduct further investigations into this matter. 

This is not the first time MP Archuna has faced legal challenges. In November 2024, the Colombo Magistrate's Court issued a warrant for his arrest after he failed to appear in court concerning a 2021 traffic accident on Baseline Road, Colombo, where he was accused of assaulting another individual. 

Additionally, in December 2024, a complaint was filed against him for allegedly entering the Jaffna Teaching Hospital without permission, abusing doctors and staff, and attempting to assault them. HIRUNEWS.LK Authorities are continuing their investigations into these incidents.
