Namal Rajapaksa Calls for Investigation into USAID Projects and NGO Funding in Sri Lanka

SLPP MP Namal Rajapaksa has urged the government to initiate an investigation into the projects and grants funded by USAID in Sri Lanka. He has requested a comprehensive report to be presented in Parliament, outlining the NGOs that have received these funds.

In a statement on X, Rajapaksa raised concerns about the role of USAID in global projects, citing allegations from Western media that the funds have been used to destabilize other nations under the guise of humanitarian assistance.

Rajapaksa pointed out that Sri Lanka has received millions of dollars in USAID funding in recent years, benefiting over 100 NGOs, politicians, and media figures. However, he expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of transparency regarding the utilization of these funds.

The MP also emphasized the need for regulations on NGO financing, urging the government to introduce measures to ensure greater accountability and transparency in foreign-funded initiatives.
