The National Police Commission has approved a series of significant police transfers involving five Senior Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) and several other high-ranking officers. These changes will take effect from February 12, 2025.

Senior DIG Attorney-at-Law Waruna Jayasundara, who served as the Commandant of the Police Special Task Force (STF), will assume duties as Senior DIG in charge of the Eastern Province. Meanwhile, Senior DIG Ajith Rohana will be transferred from his role as Senior DIG of the Eastern Province to Senior DIG in charge of the North Western Province.

Other key transfers include:

  • Senior DIG W.K. Jayalath, who moves from the North Western Province to become the Senior DIG in charge of the Southern Province.
  • Senior DIG S.W.M. Senaratne, transferred from the Southern Province to the Uva Province.
  • Senior DIG U.P.A.D.K.P. Karunanayake, appointed as the Senior DIG in charge of the Special Security Division, leaving his previous role in the Uva Province.

In addition to these, DIG D.G.S. De Silva has been appointed as the Acting Commandant of the Police Special Task Force (STF), taking over from his role as the DIG in charge of Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu Districts.

Furthermore, DIG S.D. Wijesekera, previously overseeing Vavuniya and Mannar Districts, will now serve as the Deputy Inspector General of Police for Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu Districts.

These transfers are part of a strategic move to enhance operational efficiency and ensure effective policing across the country.
