One of the two ongoing cases against former Member of Parliament, Udaya Gammanpila, for allegedly defrauding an Australian company of millions of rupees will have its verdict delivered on February 25.
The case, which was heard on January 15, involves accusations that Gammanpila, in his capacity as Additional General Manager of Metal Recycle Colombo (a subsidiary of Australian Lanka Holdings), committed multiple financial frauds against the company’s main investor, Australian national Brian Shedrick. Gammanpila is accused of advising Shedrick to make various investments, ultimately leading to the defrauding of over one hundred thousand dollars through a fake power of attorney.
Rajapaksa Pathirage Lasitha Indraweera Perera, General Manager of Ansto Lanka, a sister company of the group, is representing Shedrick as his attorney in the case.
After reviewing the written submissions of both the defendants and the Attorney General's Department, the newly assigned judge in the case decided to issue a verdict on February 25. The second related case is scheduled for hearing on January 24.
