Arumahandi Janith Madushanka Silva, also known as 'Podi Lassie', a notorious figure in Sri Lanka's underworld, has been arrested in Mumbai, India, after fleeing the country in violation of his bail conditions.

Podi Lassie, who had been remanded in custody, was granted bail by the Balapitiya High Court on December 9, 2024. However, the court had imposed a travel ban on him until his next court date. Despite this, Podi Lassie fled Sri Lanka, breaching the court's conditions.

Upon receiving intelligence that Silva had crossed into India, Sri Lankan authorities, led by Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), requested assistance from Indian law enforcement agencies. The Indian Police responded promptly, confirming Podi Lassie’s arrest in Mumbai.

Police Media Spokesperson Buddhika Manatunga stated that efforts are now underway to extradite Podi Lassie back to Sri Lanka, where he will face charges for violating the terms of his bail.

Podi Lassie, a key player in criminal activities, had previously been held on various charges, including drug trafficking and other serious offenses.
