Speaker Takes Strong Action Against MP Archuna Ranathan Over Conduct

The Speaker of Parliament has taken decisive action against Member of Parliament Archuna Ranathan regarding his conduct within the legislative body.

In a special announcement made in Parliament today (March 19), the Speaker addressed complaints concerning MP Ranathan's behavior and statements that have caused distress to others.

The Speaker revealed that after careful consideration of the received complaints, he has ordered the following measures:

• A temporary suspension of the live audio, visual, and social media broadcasts of MP Ranathan's speeches in Parliament for eight parliamentary days, from March 20 to May 8.
• The removal of offensive statements made by MP Ranathan from the parliamentary record.

This action was taken due to the complaints that were made about MP Archuna Ramanathan's behaviour and some of the statements he had made that caused distress to other people.
