Cabinet Spokesman Nalinda Jayatissa carefully avoided mentioning former Minister Tiran Alles' name despite persistent questioning from journalists regarding possible links between former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon and Alles.
During a press briefing, reporters pressed Jayatissa on whether there was credible information about Alles' residence being searched as part of the investigation. In response, he stated that he was unaware of any such search but confirmed that police had conducted searches in all known locations.
“I think he will be arrested at any time,” Jayatissa remarked, suggesting imminent legal action against the former minister.
When questioned about the possibility of Tennakoon facing interdiction, the minister clarified that there had been no discussions on such a move, leaving uncertainty over the former IGP’s fate.
The developments come amid heightened scrutiny over alleged political links influencing law enforcement and ongoing investigations into corruption and misconduct within Sri Lanka’s security sector.
