Foreign Travel Ban Imposed on Former IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon Amid Arrest Warrant

The Matara Magistrate's Court has imposed a foreign travel ban on former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon, preventing him from leaving the country. This decision follows a request made by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which is actively pursuing legal action against him.

Tennakoon is facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the shooting incident that occurred on December 31, 2023, in front of the W15 Hotel in the Pelena area of Weligama, Matara. The court has already issued a warrant for his arrest; however, he remains at large.

Despite the legal actions taken, authorities have yet to execute the arrest warrant.
