This revelation has led to concerns about why the former minister continues to receive state protection, especially when security details of other officials have reportedly been withdrawn or adjusted following the political shift. The issue highlights potential favoritism or an undisclosed alliance between Alles and the ruling administration.
Alles, who has faced serious allegations—including involvement in a bank fraud scandal and the controversial e-visa scam—has yet to be formally investigated by the authorities despite complaints and petitions being filed with supporting evidence. This inaction has fueled speculation that the government is deliberately shielding him.
Furthermore, Alles’ name was exposed in the Pandora Papers for owning offshore companies linked to properties in London. Despite global attention on financial transparency and anti-corruption efforts, the Sri Lankan government has not taken any visible steps to probe these revelations.
The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) previously called for Alles’ removal due to remarks he made that were seen as contradicting constitutional values and legal ethics. Yet, the government's apparent reluctance to act against him contrasts sharply with its treatment of other officials accused of wrongdoing.
With growing concerns over selective law enforcement and political affiliations influencing governance, the public is left questioning whether the government’s continued protection of Alles is merely a security measure or a sign of a deeper connection that needs to be exposed.
