Couple Arrested in Hokandara After Police Open Fire on Smuggling Vehicle

A couple involved in cannabis smuggling was arrested last night in Hokandara after police opened fire on their speeding car.

According to police, officers from the Malabe Police Station signaled the vehicle to stop, but the driver refused and attempted to reverse. In response, an officer fired at the car’s tyre, causing it to crash into a light post.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 1.8 kg of cannabis hidden under the car seat. Following further investigations, police recovered an additional 1 kg of cannabis from the suspects' residence.

The arrested individuals, a 30-year-old man and his 33-year-old wife from Delgoda, are now in police custody.

Malabe police have launched further investigations into the case.
