CID Names Tiran Alles as Suspect in Rs. 290 Million Newsprint Non-Payment Case

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has informed the Colombo Magistrate's Court that Tiran Alles, Chairman of Ceylon News Papers Ltd and former Minister of Public Security, is set to be named a suspect in a case involving the non-payment of Rs. 290 million for newsprint. The revelation was made when the case was heard on January 29.

CID officers told the court that they were unable to arrest Mr. Alles as his petition to the Court of Appeal, which seeks to prevent his arrest, is scheduled for a hearing in March. The officers also mentioned that Mr. Alles had been asked to appear for questioning but failed to do so, citing illness.

In response, the Colombo Magistrate's Court ordered that Mr. Alles be banned from traveling abroad, as requested by the CID.
