Colombo High Court Grants Bail to BBS General Secretary Gnanasara Thera

The Colombo High Court has ordered the release on bail of Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera, the General Secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena (BBS), who was previously sentenced to nine months of simple imprisonment for insulting Islam.

The decision came after the court reviewed a revision petition filed by Gnanasara Thera, requesting bail while his appeal against the sentence is under review.

Earlier, on January 9, the Colombo Magistrate’s Court handed down the prison sentence after finding him guilty of making statements that insulted the religion of Islam.

With this latest ruling, Gnanasara Thera will remain free on bail until the appeal process is concluded.
