The salaries and allowances of all Members of Parliament (MPs) and Ministers in the National People's Power (NPP) government continue to be credited to a central fund, Deputy Minister of Public Security Sunil Watagala announced today.
Speaking to the media, Deputy Minister Watagala emphasized that this long-standing practice, initiated during the tenure of Nihal Galappatti, remains an integral part of the NPP's governance ethos.
“The President himself adheres to this system,” he stated, underscoring the government's collective commitment to this approach.
The centralized account, located in Borella, is dedicated to public service initiatives. “This fund allows us greater opportunities to serve the people effectively,” the Deputy Minister explained.
Addressing recent reports about importing vehicles for MPs, Watagala firmly denied any such plans. “No vehicles will be specially imported for MPs. Instead, we have created an environment that enables them to work efficiently for the people,” he clarified.
The NPP government continues to prioritize transparency and fiscal responsibility, ensuring that resources are used for the benefit of the public.
