In a recent development, the Sri Lankan government has decided to maintain the Adani Group's wind power projects in Mannar and Pooneryn but is seeking to renegotiate the agreed-upon tariff rates. During a recent visit to India, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath expressed concerns to Indian officials regarding the high tariffs proposed by Adani, noting that other companies have submitted significantly lower rates.
This move comes in the wake of allegations of corruption against the Adani Group in the United States, leading to increased scrutiny of its international ventures. Despite these challenges, the Sri Lankan government has not opted to cancel the projects but is instead focusing on ensuring that the terms are more favorable for the country.
The Adani Group has responded by stating that the review of the tariff rates is a standard procedure, especially with the induction of a new government, and reaffirmed its commitment to investing $1 billion in Sri Lanka's renewable energy sector.
