The order was issued by Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawala following an extensive review of the case details.
The arrests were made based on instructions from the Attorney General, citing allegations of criminal misappropriation of public funds. The suspects are accused of violating the Public Property Act by misusing Rs. 6,146,110 belonging to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation in late 2014.
The funds were reportedly allocated for providing relief to flood-displaced residents in the Bingiriya and Narammala areas. However, investigations revealed the money was allegedly diverted for campaigning activities during the 2015 presidential election.
The case continues to unfold as legal proceedings progress.
